About#
Warning
This game is very early in development and all of this is subject to change. No promises.
STARBLOOM is intended to be a factory building game. It is also intended to be a relaxing farming game.
…maybe relaxing isn’t the best word while trying not to die of heat exhaustion while fending off incendiary robots looking to turn your plastic-producing farmplot into a raging inferno.
The basic premise is this:
You (the player) exist in a (practically) infinite procedurally generated world. You are alone in this world, with only the robots to keep you company. You are scaping by on your farm, growing enough food to keep you and your (biological[1]) livestock alive, while fending off wild animals, bad weather, and old robots that still want to burn anything that lives.
You, The Player#
You do not know why you are here.
The Farm#
You start by clearing out, then expanding your farm into an industrial powerhouse. Plant and machine work side by side to make the things you need and want, while being tended to and defended by yourself and your eventual robot companions. The first thing it produces is edible food, which you must still harvest yourself. Then rudamentary bulding blocks and basic gadgets still requiring a lot of manual labor. Eventually, large swaths of the farm can be automated, producing things with little to no help from you.
The Plants#
Plants are the backbone of life in STARBLOOM. They provide food, raw materials, processing, and/or power to the farm. Once planted, plants take time to grow (several in-game days), though this can be speeded up manually (but inefficently), or eventually automatically with robots. Most plants require a supply of water to survive, along with light and good enviormental conditions[2].
The Robots#
They are left over from a time long ago. Some of them still do what they were designed to do, as their long legs are condusive to steping through the hellfire they create. Others are nothing but empty shells, their only use being scrapped for parts. Some you may even create yourself.
There are two types of robots[3]:
The Docile Ones#
They make good farmhands, doing everything from tending to plants and livestock to processing things as part of supply chains.
The Not-So-Frendly Ones#
They do what they were designed to do: start fires. And once they do, they will fight tooth and nail (bolt and screw?) to keep them burning. They don’t show up for a while, but when they do, they are a challenge (I hope you invested in kamakazi drones).
The World#
Note
The world is not infinite, it is just so big that visiting the entirty if it will run into issues. Probably something involving floating-point errors, stoage space, or memory, whichever has the decency to come first.
